God Gives His Family A Bold New Message, Acts 3-4

Peter and John went to the big, important temple up on the hill. They told everyone who would listen that Jesus was the Rescuer, the one who would show them the way home to God! By the power of the Holy Spirit, Peter and John even healed a man. From the time he had been born, the man had not been able to walk. The man, whose legs were twisted and shriveled, went to the temple to ask people for money because he couldn’t work. He asked Peter and John for money. Peter looked at him and said “I don’t have any money to give you. But I’ll give you what I do have.” And then, Peter held the man’s hand and said “In the name of Jesus, get up and walk.” The man’s legs and ankles immediately grew strong, and he got up and began dancing around, praising God!

It was a miracle, just like the miracles that Jesus had done! Miracles displayed God’s power and pointed people to Jesus, the one True King. People began to gather around Peter and John and the man who was dancing around, wondering what had happened. Peter and John began talking to these people about Jesus, too!

This message about Jesus that Peter and John and God’s new family told everyone who would listen was called The Gospel. Gospel means Good News. The Good News is the message about Jesus, the kingdom of God, and about how Jesus shows people the way back home to live with God in his kingdom.

Many things about our lives are very different from the lives of the people in Acts. We live in a different country. We wear very different clothes. We eat different foods. We speak a different language. BUT. The Gospel, the Good News, is the SAME for all people, in all places, all the time!
