Explore the Bible at Home - Week of December 3
Explore the Bible at home this week!
During December in our Fellowship Denver Kids classes we'll be learning about the birth of Jesus and the meaning of Advent, when we look back to Jesus' birth and forward to His second coming.
The theme for our lesson on the first Sunday of Advent was "Hope." Use the guide below to continue talking about Advent at home this week!
Q: What does “Advent” mean?
A: Advent means “coming.”
Q: What do we celebrate during Advent?
A: During Advent, we look back to Jesus’ first coming—when God quietly sent His baby Son to begin the Great Rescue. And we look forward to Jesus’ second coming—when He will return with a shout to finish His Great Rescue and put a final end to the curse and ache of sin.
Advent Candle One: Hope
Q: What is “hope?"
A: A strong and confident expectation, A belief that something will happen
Scripture reading: Luke 1:26-28, 31-33
God promised that a Rescuer would come who would bring hope, healing, and a cure for sin. After that promise thousands of years passed and God's people waited for the fulfillment of that promise. The Angel’s announcement to Mary brought hope for the whole world.
Scripture reading: Titus 2:13
About two thousand years have passed since Jesus went back to heaven, but He promised that He would come back for His people. We wait with hope for the Rescuer, our Savior, to come back!
